The church was inaugurated September 27, 1917 and seats approx. 160 people. People gather here for worship services, baptisms, confirmations, weddings, funerals, and fellowship.
The church was built on Bjørkerud farm's land, originally made for Rudsfjerdingen. For many years, the church had the status as a chapel and comprised the former school districts of Øderud and Flattum as well as the farms Torsby, Finsrud and Åsengen.
In 1969 the inside of the church burned. Reconstruction work afterwards has aimed to preserve the church's original character. The original altarpiece was an oil painting made by August Klægstad. The alterpiece’s motif is of Christ and Mary Magdalene at the tomb together with the text "Who are you looking for?," from the Gospel of John 20.15.
